Bringing a Purpose-Driven Brand to Life

Aspen Center for Learning is at the beginning of an ambitious fundraising journey, with plans to build Utah’s first educational facility focused on lifelong learning for individuals with disabilities. While they had already secured land and a vision, they needed a name, brand identity, and website to help reach their $11 million fundraising goal—and to share their mission with the world.

A Brand That Inspires Action and Belonging

Aspen’s brand needed to strike a balance: academic and professional, yet welcoming and human. It had to resonate with donors, parents, and students alike—creating a sense of shared purpose and inspiring people to get involved and spread the word.Aspen’s brand needed to strike a balance: academic and professional, yet welcoming and human. It had to resonate with donors, parents, and students alike—creating a sense of shared purpose and inspiring people to get involved and spread the word.

Creating a Name with Deeper Meaning

The branding process began with a renaming effort designed to support long-term growth and adaptability. “Aspen” was chosen not just for its local significance to the Wasatch region, but also for the symbolism behind the tree’s interconnected root system—representing strength, stability, and a thriving community. It’s a reflection of the school’s vision for its students and their future.

A Website That Moves People to Give

With construction and fundraising still in early stages, the website needed to clearly communicate both the urgency and the potential of the project. We worked closely with the Aspen team to craft a storytelling-driven site that explains the “why,” outlines the plan, and invites visitors to be part of something transformative.

Building a Vision That Can Grow With the Mission

By launch, Aspen’s visual identity had matured into a flexible editorial system—one that nods to the academic world while staying warm and approachable. The brand also introduced Nova, a woodpecker mascot that represents the determination and resilience that defines Aspen’s students. Nova brings a personal, symbolic layer to a brand built for impact—now and in the future.
“Grand Prize helped us realize our vision in ways we hadn’t even considered, resulting in something exciting that we can see prospective donors eager to be a part of. They were our guide through the process, making it easy for us to make decisions and come away with a brand and website that feels right for our mission and goals.”
