Creating a web experience that highlights the science behind the brand

Immunotec

Challenge

Immunotec knew it was time to reinvent their web experience, especially their opportunity and enrollment process, but were faced with a common problem - where to start. Since their last major digital overhaul, websites had evolved greatly and intertwined the brand story, shopping experience, and back-office more seamlessly than ever before. Plus, they knew they wanted to launch with a new CMS to make it easier to manage and create web pages, products, and integrations simpler than in the past.

Approach

From day 1, we worked to understand the requirements the Immunotec team had and found solutions that integrated an existing back-office solution (Exigo) and other existing third-party tools with a state of the art custom platform to solve for new needs. By partnering with their internal technical team, we were able to design and develop simultaneously within these confines as we worked towards an aggressive launch date. We didn’t let a tight timeline prevent us from creating easy to use and modern designs that took the existing Immunotec brand and expanded upon it to develop an experience new and existing customers would enjoy.

One digital experience

The new Immunotec website was designed and built to be a modern, streamlined marketing and e-commerce experience that elevated the way a user interacts with the brand, while still considering the limitations of legacy technologies that had to be integrated. And no web experience is built for the modern digital landscape without considering mobile engagement, which is particularly critical outside of North America.

Modernizing the shopping and checkout process

As an e-commerce site, one of the most important updates includes a completely redesigned, and simplified, checkout for easier purchases - one that also supports 5 languages, multiple payment gateways, and 14 country specific business requirements. This checkout process also had to flow seamlessly into the enrollment process, where we worked closely with the Immunotec team to reduce the steps and friction of the process to allow new independent resellers to join and start earning quicker.

Science-ish content that can be understood by all

While almost every page included some science-based information, when someone wanted to dig deeper, we made it possible through multiple places on the site - like the home page, product pages, about and history pages. These deep dives were places where content and UX came together to create more interactive stories around the history of Immunotec, the ingredients and the processes that go into developing the health and wellness products they are so well known for.

Solving for Technical Challenges

For the e-commerce and enrollment experiences, we separated the front-end from the legacy back-end (Exigo). We leveraged the Builder.io CMS to help manage all of the new features and pages created during the design process that allows content editors to manage data from multiple sources in a single interface.

A Welcoming Design System

The design process resulted in a strong unified design language, delivering consistency across several technologies for a better web experience for all user types. Our designs made sure to prioritize a pleasant-to-use mobile-first experience and optimize for mobile connectivity.
